We are entering a crucial period in the fight against the coronavirus devil.
The civil society seems determined to rush into reopening business and other things that would allow for masses of people to congregate closely together again even though, in most places, the number of coronavirus cases are still rising, no vaccine is in sight, and deaths from the plague continue unabated.
Some people are viewing the local government-mandated social distancing rules and the stay at home rules and the face mask rules as in intrusion against their civil liberties even though these things were designed to save human lives in the face of a largely unknown terror. The Christian Community seems divided on the issue of whether or not to resume in person church gatherings just yet — some are making claims that their freedoms are being eroded by states, some are claiming the Divine Protection will prevent them from catching the disease regardless of whether they group together in enclosed spaces for lengthy periods of time and others are simply uncertain.
I heard one local church recently preaching the message that their assembly had become the New Goshen, referring to the ancient Israelite community that was spared the Egyptian plagues during Pharoah’s times.
While I was reading that Old Testament-based claim about Biblical immunity through faith, I ran across an article in a news source that said that one church had decided to hold inside in-person services and that a single infected member had caused 108 other members of their congregation to test positive for the disease.
I guess this is one of those doors of choice that can swing either way.
Even though the churches are debating the issue of whether or not to hold in-person services inside their buildings, I still see signs everywhere where I live telling people in drug stores and super markets and other places, “Face masks are required by law” and social distancing is still being practiced in the stores and malls …and parks ….and beaches …. with people on one side of the question absolutely denying the need for any of the safety precautions and other people still convinced that the time to dispense with the safety precautions has not yet arrived.
This very Sunday is going to be a real test of which course is the proper course to follow.
This Sunday many houses of worship are going to go all out with in-person meetings inside their buildings and I believe we will have about 14 days or so in which to find out what the results of that venture are going to be.
(The incubation time for the plague from exposure to symptoms showing is supposed to be either 4 to 6 days after exposure and in some cases up to 14 days or more. But it is my personal belief that the next two week period is going to show us whether opening up all the venues where people can freely come together again is a good idea or not. It will all depend on whether or not there are significant spikes in the disease or whether or not the death rate spirals again.
None of this can be taken lightly and needs the deepest and most sincere kind of prayer!I love Jesus intently but I also would not want to live with the fact that I might have infected somebody with this thing by attending a church service where people are close together in a closed environment. I believe that I owe it in love to my fellow Christians to avoid any such possibility.By the same token, I have to admit that I am also not very much enthralled by the idea of someone who has the disease spreading it to me in such surroundings.
I know that sounds selfish, but I am asking God to forgive me if it is selfish. I definitely do not wish to be selfish!I have faith that God can protect people in such circumstances but I am not going to be foolish enough to “Presume” that He will protect everybody because His Ways are higher than our own and His thoughts are higher than our own …and it is not always possible to know why He does things the way He does them.
I hate to sound worldly here but I am personally avoiding all such possibilities until such time as I hear the medical experts and the scientists sounding the all clear or until I receive a revelation from on High … which is entirely possible because we are living in the days when such things are entirely possible:Acts 2:17 – And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:
There is no reason for me to believe that churches and business places of all kinds cannot still perform essential services without the necessity of doing them in person in a closed environment.
I believe they can perform these services because I have been observing them doing it for quite awhile now ….online services are still providing necessary spiritual guidance and opportunities for worship and praise … food baskets are still going out to the needy — It can be done … it is being done.I have heard people ask, “Well if we can go to the big stores and do our shopping, why can’t we go to church?”
First of all, nobody at the big box stores are shouting and singing and shouting and singing is one of the easiest ways to spread the disease … and a single cough or a single sneeze can send the virus particles across 5 or 6 church pews and two to three grocery aisles where they remain in aerosol form in the air for at least one to three minutres allowing unwitting victims to walk through the invisible mists.
Where there is a choir or a lot of more vulnerable older folks, the risks of infection skyrocket.
I know this whole question boils down to freedom of choice. That is fine with me. Freedom of choice is as American as apple pie.I feel that these issues have become hot button political issues and that is disturbing to me too because nothing that has to do with The Word of God should ever become political.
But these issues are, in fact, being politicized all over the country and I think that is just an unfortunate and sad situation and I think we all ought to be praying about that too.
I didn’t want to have to get involved in this discussion but I felt a strong inner urge to address it in the event that it might be of interest or some help to some people somewhere.
I am not going to attempt to tell people what to do because people are going to do what people want to do no matter what I say or what any preacher says …But I am asking everyone to pray … and to pray hard and to pray often because these are matters of literal Life or Death. In Jesus Name.
